Hot Shots! $6.92 From director Jim Abrahams, one of the minds behind the Airplane! and Naked Gun films, comes another parody. This time around, Abrahams has his sights set on the action-adventure genre, specifically Top Gun. Charlie Sheen stars as Topper Harley, a maverick air force pilot who constantly lives in the shadow of his father's legacy. Unable to handle the pressure, Harley has left the Air Force to live among a tribe of Native Americans. But when the United States seeks to destroy some Iraqi nuclear facilities, there's only one man for the job. After being coaxed back into service, Harley soon realizes that in addition to Saddam Hussein, he'll have to contend with a rival pilot, played by Cary Elwes, and a devious aerospace executive. Among the many films lampooned are Dances With Wolves, 9 1/2 Weeks, The Fabulous Baker Boys, and Gone With the Wind. ~ Matthew Tobey, Rovi |

Last Of The Mobile Hot Shots $13.64 Brutes and faded belles. Mint juleps and chicory coffee. Sexual propriety and kinky behavior. Old eras shoved aside kicking and flailing by the inevitable new. They're signposts of a distinctive locale: Tennessee Williams Territory. Based on The Seven Descents of Myrtle, Last of the Mobile Hot-Shots is the 15th Williams work to reach the screen. Sidney Lumet (Network, Dog Day Afternoon) directs this adaptation rich in character and atmosphere. James Coburn, Lynn Redgrave and Robert Hooks star as a raw-edged trio housed in a rundown mansion during an incessant rain - and knotted with racial and sexual animosities. Like the swelling river pushing against a nearby levee, those tensions can't be contained long. The waters run deep. The emotions run deep. You're in Tennessee Williams Territory. 1969/color/108 min/R/mono/widescreen. |

Part Deux Movie references, sight gags, silly puns, and double entendres abound in Hot Shots! Part Deux, Jim Abrahams' sequel to Hot Shots -- only now the object of the skewering is the Stallone Rambo movies instead of Top Gun. Charlie Sheen returns as the lunk-headed Topper Harley, who has retreated to a Buddhist monastery after being dumped by Ramada Rodham Hayman (Valerie Golino). In this far-off retreat, the monks have "taken a vow of celibacy, just like their fathers and their fathers before them." But Topper bulks up and goes back into action when his superior officer, Colonel Denton Walters (Richard Crenna) is captured by a Saddam Hussein look-alike, missing somewhere between "Iraq and a Hard Place." Topper charges into Iraq (after barreling through a Beverly Hills barbecue) along with sexy CIA operative Michelle Rodham Huddleston (Brenda Bakke) in tow, his guns ablazing. ~ Paul Brenner, Rovi |

Hot Shots! / Hot Shots! Part Deux (Double Feature) $9.33 HOT SHOTS!: Charlie Sheen stars in this TOP GUN spoof by the folks who created AIRPLANE and NAKED GUN, playing Topper Harley, a heartthrob fighter pilot assigned to the Navy on a secret mission, the details of which never entirely become clear. The jokes come fast and furious as Topper attempts to clear his family name while completing his mission despite the absurdity going on around him, and the spoofs are not limited to TOP GUN; DANCES WITH WOLVES and THE FABULOUS BAKER BOYS also receive their due! Lloyd Bridges turns in a hilarious performance as the accident-prone and eccentric Admiral Tug Benson, and Cary Elwes plays Topper's sleazy rival to perfection.HOT SHOTS! PART DEUX: A follow-up to the original that's even zanier than the first. Topper Harley heads up a mission into Iraq to rescue the rescuers of the rescuers of hostages being held by Saddam Hussein. |
